Mindful Making & Studio Companions

A little room to slow down, follow your curiosity and enjoy creating.

There is something comforting about spending time with our hands.

Stitching a seam. Preparing a favourite recipe. Tending a garden. Choosing colours for a quilt.

When we give these small moments our attention, creativity can become a welcome place to pause.

Mindful making invites us to notice how we feel as we create, enjoy the materials in our hands and find a pace we can return to.

Begin with a small moment

Choose something you would enjoy spending a few minutes with. A piece of fabric, a notebook, ingredients for a simple meal or a plant that needs tending.

Before you begin, pause.

What catches your attention? What would feel enjoyable today? Perhaps you want to experiment, learn something or simply spend a little quiet time making.

Let that be enough to begin.

Afterwards, consider: What did I enjoy, and what would I like to return to?

Companions for your creative life

I’m Helen, the maker behind Bare Cub Designs. Bear making has been part of my life for many years, and it has taught me as much about patience, observation and returning as it has about sewing.

I created the Studio Companions to explore that quieter side of creativity.

These illustrated digital books bring together reflections, journalling prompts and gentle invitations to try in your own life. You might read a few pages beside your morning coffee, write about something that resonates or return to a familiar passage before making.

Although their stories often begin in my bear-making studio, many of the ideas can accompany whatever you love doing.
