A Year of Gentle Gratitude
Discovering the beauty that was here all along.
The first sip of morning coffee. A message from someone you love. Light across the kitchen table. The satisfaction of making something with your hands.
Small moments can pass quietly through an ordinary day. Giving them a little attention offers a way to remember what we appreciate.
A Year of Gentle Gratitude is an illustrated journal companion by Helen Gleeson, with 52 weekly prompts to help you notice, reflect and keep a personal record of everyday discoveries.
You can begin whenever you wish.
Gratitude with room for real life
Some days offer plenty to appreciate. On others, finding the words may feel difficult.
There is room for both.
This practice invites you to acknowledge something comforting, interesting or meaningful alongside whatever else your day holds. You can write honestly about a small pleasure without needing to make everything feel positive.
A sentence may be enough. If a prompt doesn’t suit you today, leave it and return another time.
A gentle weekly rhythm
Pause and choose a prompt
Settle somewhere comfortable and read the week’s invitation.
You might be encouraged to notice familiar things, explore colour and texture, reflect on a changing season or appreciate something your hands have learned.
Let the idea accompany you through the week.
Notice in everyday life
There is no need to arrange a special outing or create a perfect moment.
You might find something worth recording while cooking, walking, gardening, stitching or talking with a friend.
Linger when something catches your attention.
Keep a few words
Write about what you noticed and why it mattered to you.
Your entry might be a few lines, a longer reflection or a single detail you want to remember. Finish with something you feel grateful for, if that feels natural.
Over time, these entries become a record of your own life and the things you value.
A small invitation for today
Think of one ordinary moment from your day that you would like to keep.
Perhaps someone made you laugh. A favourite tool felt comfortable in your hand. You enjoyed preparing a meal or noticed new growth in the garden.
Write three simple lines:
Today I noticed…
It mattered to me because…
I would like to remember…
You don’t need to write beautifully. Use the words that feel true to you.

A Year of Gentle Gratitude is a 69-page illustrated digital guide and journal.
Inside, you’ll find:
An introduction to gratitude within a creative life.
Twelve reminders for weaving appreciation into everyday making.
Reflections on the four creative seasons.
Fifty-two weekly prompts, each on its own journal page.
Closing reflections and an invitation to look back on what you have discovered.
The weekly prompts move through four broad themes: returning to yourself, looking closely, recognising your creative seasons and appreciating the experience of making.
Many invitations explore home, nature, memories and relationships. Later prompts draw more directly on bear making and stitching; you can adapt these to your own creative practice.
Begin with Week 1 whenever you are ready, or choose a prompt that speaks to you. If you miss a week, simply return without catching up.
