Return. Discover. Create.
A gentle year of finding your way back to creativity
Twelve months. Twelve invitations. Your own beautiful journey.
Somewhere between the responsibilities of everyday life, the demands of work and the unexpected changes that come our way, it’s possible to lose touch with the things that once brought us joy.
The things we loved making. The interests we hoped to explore. The quiet moments that belonged entirely to us.
But creativity has a beautiful way of waiting. And sometimes, all we need is a little encouragement to begin again.
Welcome to Return. Discover. Create.
A free, year-long creative journey from Bare Cub Designs, exploring what happens when we make a little more room for beauty, curiosity and the simple pleasure of creating with our hands.
There is nothing to buy, nothing to prepare and no experience required.
You don’t even need to consider yourself creative.
Just come as you are.
Why I’m Beginning This Journey
I’m Helen, the artist and maker behind Bare Cub Designs.
For much of my life, creativity was something I loved but struggled to make room for alongside a demanding corporate career.
Then breast cancer, treatment, fatigue and the challenges of recovery changed my relationship with the things that had once brought me so much joy.
There were times when I knew I was a creative person yet felt strangely disconnected from that part of myself.
Returning wasn’t as simple as finding more time to sew.
It meant learning to slow down, recognising what I needed, and rediscovering the pleasure of making without expectations.
Now I’m beginning a new chapter, and I’d love to invite you along.
Over the coming twelve months, I’ll be exploring what it means to return to creativity in everyday life. I’ll share my experiences, the beautiful moments, the difficult ones, and the things I discover along the way.
Not because I have all the answers.
But because I believe there is something valuable in exploring these questions together.
If you’d like to know more about the experiences that brought me here, you can read my story.
A Year in Three Gentle Chapters
Return — Months 1 to 4
Remembering the joy of creativity.
We begin by making space. Slowing down. Finding our way back to the things we once enjoyed, or perhaps discovering them for the first time.
Discover — Months 5 to 8
Exploring beauty, confidence and the creative process.
We learn to look more closely, appreciate the process, experiment and become more comfortable with being beginners.
Create — Months 9 to 12
Finding our own way of making.
We explore personal style, craftsmanship, creative possibilities and the quiet satisfaction of making something meaningful.
There is no perfect outcome waiting at the end. The experience of returning is valuable in itself.
Explore the Twelve - Monthly Invitations
Each month introduces a new theme, a personal reflection from The Studio Chair and a practical article from the Studio Library.
You can follow along as the journey unfolds or begin with the first month whenever you discover us.
Every month follows the same gentle rhythm:
Pause. Presence. Purpose. Process. Practice.
These five steps offer a simple way to complete each month without pressure. They are not rules or tasks to tick off. They are invitations to notice where you are, what matters to you and how creativity might fit into your life.

A Gentle Way to Complete Each Month
There are no rules to follow and no projects you must complete. Instead, each month invites you to move through five simple stages.
Pause
Begin by creating a little space.
Pause from the busyness of everyday life and give yourself permission to arrive exactly as you are. You might sit quietly, take a walk, make a cup of tea or simply notice your breathing.
This is not about stopping everything. It is about creating a small moment in which you can pay attention.
Presence
Notice what is here.
What are you feeling? What are you drawn to? What brings you comfort, curiosity or a sense of possibility?
Presence might mean noticing the colours around you, the texture of fabric, the changing light or the thoughts that arise when you give yourself time to be still.
Purpose
Consider what matters to you.
What would you like to explore this month? What kind of creative experience would feel nourishing, interesting or meaningful?
Your purpose does not need to be ambitious. It might be to make time for yourself, try something you have been curious about or reconnect with something you once loved.
Process
Give yourself permission to explore.
This is the part where you begin. You might sew, knit, paint, garden, write, photograph, arrange flowers or work with any material that interests you.
Focus on the experience rather than the result. Let yourself experiment, change direction and learn as you go.
Practice
Return to what you have discovered.
At the end of the month, take a little time to reflect. What did you notice? What did you enjoy? What felt difficult? What would you like to carry forward?
Practice is not about becoming perfect. It is about returning gently and allowing creativity to become part of your life in a way that feels natural to you.
You don’t need to complete every stage in one sitting.
You can move through them slowly, revisit them whenever you wish and make them your own.
You don’t need to make a teddy bear to participate.
And if life becomes busy, you can put the journey aside and return whenever you feel ready.
There is no falling behind when you’re creating at your own pace.
A Little Letter From My Studio
If you’d enjoy a gentle reminder to return to your creativity, I’d love to send you our monthly invitation, along with the latest reflections and creative inspiration.
These letters are free, just like the journey itself.
Bear making has been part of my creative life for many years, and it remains one of the ways I find calm, satisfaction and joy in working with my hands.
If you discover that you’d like to explore this beautiful craft, you’re warmly invited to visit the Beauty in Bear Making Studio, where I share my patterns, tutorials, masterclass and mindful making companions.
But there is no need to make that decision today.
For now, simply begin.
Pause for a moment. Be present with what is around you. Consider what matters. Enjoy the process. Return to the practice of making.
Pause. Presence. Purpose. Process. Practice.
Return. Discover. Create.
With warmth,
Helen Gleeson
